The Story of Futch

Futch was born into a clan called the Dragon Knights of Seek Valley, where every man, woman, and child is paired with a dragon for life.  Futch's was a dragon named Black.  Black was very wise and noble and well mannered, quite the opposite of young Futch.  When Futch was eight years old, he and Black made a very dangerous and reckless expedition to the castle of an evil tyrant, in order to spy on him.  The information Futch found there was a deciding factor in the war to overthrow the tyrant, but Black was killed while fleeing from the castle.  Without a dragon, Futch could not reside among the Dragon Knights, and was banished into the care of a wandering swordsman Humphrey, who was in search of his own truth.  Along their journeys, aside from getting caught up in another war, they happened upon a dragon egg.  This was when Futch was 14. From the egg hatched a very rare white dragon.  Futch and the dragon immediately bonded, and Futch named the dragon Bright.

Though he could have returned home at this point, but he chose to continue traveling with Humphrey for a bit longer.  There travels eventually took them to a small village in the powerful country Harmonia.  The village was attacked by a wild dragon, and Futch, Humphrey, and a man named Nash took on the task of ridding the village of the nuisance.

From here, the actually canon story splits into two options, and I have invented many of the details myself according to the character I built.

They took on the dragon in it's cavern, and there was a fierce battle.  At one point the dragon unleashed a very powerful attack, which shook the very mountain itself.  Humphrey was crushed by falling rocks and killed.  Nash sent Futch out of the cave while he finished off the dragon, and when all was silent, Futch ran back in to check on his dear friend and mentor, Humphrey, who was already dead.  While Futch grieved for the loss, Bright made his way to the dying but not quite dead dragon.  He said a few words in the dragon language, and then nuzzled close up to the older dragon.  Suddenly, the ceiling of the caver disappeared as a portal the World of Wings of Scale, the much fabled land of the dragons.  The dying dragon stood up, having gained a second Wind from its home world.  Without a single glance behind, it took off soaring into the sky of the other world.  The portal closed, and Futch, Bright, and Nash were left in darkness.

Taking up Humphrey's sword, Masumne, the passing shower, he cast aside his own spear.  He had failed to defend his friend with the old weapon, and decided he could no longer use it.  Bright took the spear in his fore-claws.  Leaving Nash behind, Futch and Bright returned to Seek Valley.  There he was surprised to find a knew addition to the clan: Sharon, the young daughter of Milia, who was the chief of the clan. Futch couldn't help but see a bit of himself in little Sharon, and he presented his spear to Milia, to be given to the child when she learned to fight.

Sharon was a slow learner, and even more thick headed and brash as Futch had been.  At the age of thirteen, she still had not proven herself deserving to be paired with a dragon.  As such, she was sent on a journey with Futch, and the pair were told that neither could return until Sharon was ready to be given her own dragon.

Two years into their travels, Sharon, Futch, and a now fully grown Bright got caught up in yet another war, this time a war that would decide the fate of existence itself.  Futch had many old friends among those who fought destruction, who had come from all corners of the globe to lend their assistance.  However, Futch was more struck by the lack of his best friend from the old wars, Luc.  Not only was Luc not fighting against the destruction of the universe, he was the very threat that would destroy it!  In the end, Luc was destroyed and the world remained intact, but it was a bittersweet victory for Futch, who grieved for the loss of yet another friend, of which he had so few.

That is where the story of Futch currently lies.  The game series has not yet released any story that takes place after this war, choosing instead to focus on prequels. I have my own theories as to where Futch goes, and I may share them sometime, but for now, it ends here.
